What is ASE Certified?

By September 22, 2017General

ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence and is an independent, non-profit organization that has been working to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service since 1972 by testing and certifying vehicle repair and service mechanics.

ASE offers more than 40 tests for cars and light trucks, collision repair, medium-heavy trucks, school and transit buses, and auto and truck parts. To become ASE certified, your mechanic must pass a test and have at least two years of relevant hands-on working experience. To remain certified in any of the ASE specialty areas, technicians must take and pass a re-certification test every five years.

Automobile technicians must keep their skills and knowledge updated to keep pace with ever-changing vehicles. The tests focus on practical problems encountered in day-to-day work situations and is written and approved by teams of carefully selected experts who represent a cross-section of relevant industry representatives. Selecting such a wide group of experts ensures the tests are fair for all without bias towards a specific vehicle type, make or equipment manufacturer.
